Music

Tampere offers a wide selections of musical events. On this page you find the biggest venues as well as popular clubs with gigs. I addition, you  find information on student choirs and orchestras in Tampere. Their concerts are often inexpensive for students. Musical festivals in Tampere are presented in Festivals page. However, if you are interested in music, you should keep your eyes open: conserts are held in many places from parks to cafés and they are advertised in streets and billboards as well as local news papers.

Orchestras and opera

Tampere Hall offers a variety of musical events from pop-concerts to opera. Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra has conserts weekly and by joining the Young Listener Club you'll get in their concerts with only 6 euros. Information on concerts from event calendar.

Pyynikkisali Students, pupils and teachers of Tampere Conservatoire and TAMK University of Applied Sciences School of Music give concerts and dance performances in Pyynikkisali. Also the high –level guests enrich the concert repertoire. Many concerts are free. More info on Pyynikkisali concert calendar.

TASO – Tampere Academic Symphony Orchestra is founded in 2003 and has since then been conducted  by Kimmo Tullila. The orchestrai contains of 70 players and performs atleast once every spring and autumn. Information on concerts here.

Torvikopla is a student big band. Musicians are mainly students from Tampere Univeristy and Tampere University of Technology.

Student choirs

Tampereen Akateemiset Laulajat ry  has been established as a registered association in 1985. Within TAL, there are several active singing groups, most notably a student choir Teekkarikuoro (In the picture. Pic: Pekka Lehtinen.) Teekkarikuoro performs atleast once a semester.

TYL – Tampereen yliopiston laulajat ry is a mixed student choir organised in 1964. Repertoire is very flexible, ranging from church music to modern folk songs.  The choir performs atleast twice a year.

Clubs

Yo-talo (in the picure. Pic: Tampereen Yo-talo Oy) at Kauppakatu 10 offers klubs, discos, gigs and other events.  Many student discounts and offers.

Klubi and Pakkahuone Tullikamari (Old Customs House, built in 1901) has hosted a live music venue since 1988. In August 2001 the club side was fully renovated and Klubi was born. Klubi provides a wide selection of concerts and other happenings on its own and with adjacent Pakkahuone Hall events of up to 1500 people can be organised.

Telakka A variety of gigs and other events.

Vastavirta-klubi is a alternative music club in Pispala. Punk bands are often on stage, but you can also see other music styles from bands with punk attitude.

Paapan kapakka is the only pub in Tampere that offes live jazz  seven days a week. In addition to Paapan Kapakka'sown house band audience is entertained by guest bands.

Irish Bar O'Connell's Legendary Irish bar O'Connell'sissa offers free live shows regularly and every now and then open stage.
